Beauty Brands Holiday Haircare Bag + $5 Discount Code! STILL AVAILABLE!

Despite the fact that they have ten brick and mortar stores in Texas, seven of which are within easy driving distance of my house, I was somehow unaware of Beauty Brands.  (Yes, I know I need to get out more.)  Anyway, they ran a special promotion over the holidays for a Holiday Haircare bag which was advertised to contain more than $100 worth of mostly hair products.  The price of $10 (plus $5.95 for shipping) plus a $5 discount code (see below) got my attention...and my order.

Before getting into this review, I want to warn you that there have been howls of discontent about this offer.  It seems that a lot of customers did not get everything shown in the ad, particularly the larger samples.  When the negative reviews started rolling in, the description on the site was apparently changed to read "Bag MAY Include....." rather than the earlier implication that the bag would include everything listed.

Business realist that I am, the outrage seems petty.  Those who used the discount got this bag (as did I) for about $10.95. It's a serious thing to throw around terms like "false advertising" when most likely, a poorly worded ad seems to have been the problem rather than any real attempt to deceive. The bottom line is that customers got a bag filled with samples that is easily worth more than the amount paid.

So, let's see what came in Beauty Brands Holiday Haircare Bag!

They included a card that lists 12 products and their full size retail prices. I find that information pretty useless since it has little relevance for a bag full of samples.

The bag is a lot nicer than the usual small flat cosmetic bags included in many beauty boxes.  This one is made of canvas with a clear plastic front so you can see what is inside. The sides are gusseted so it can expand and it zips at the top.  You could easily carry several full size hair products in this.  Customers received different colors; I like the purple that I got. The list in the ad mentions a "shower loofah"; I think most people actually got a nylon pouf like this white one.

There is a pack of hot pink butterfly hair clips from Mr. Clip.  I don't use these myself but will pass them along to someone who does.

This Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer from Redken is supposed to shave minutes off blow dry time and protect hair from heat damage.  Anything that claims to reduce hair drying time is worth trying as far as I'm concerned. (A tourmaline ionic hair dryer has reduced drying time more than any product I've tried...just sayin'....)

The obligatory dry shampoo is this one from Amika called Perk Up.  I'm sure this is as good as any but I really wish the dry shampoo fad would go away; there are way too many of them in beauty boxes.

They included an OPI mini nail lacquer.  I think customers received different shades; the one I got is an intense dark red with a bit of shimmer to it.  Very pretty and holiday appropriate! (The photo doesn't begin to do it justice.)

This generously sized sample of It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product is most welcome.  I haven't tried this but have heard it works well in leaving hair soft and shiny.

This little brush isn't mentioned on the card. The bristles seem to be made of plastic or rubber so it probably won't work on my hair but it would make a good glove compartment brush.

From Sexy Hair, there is a small can of Root Pump Volumizing Spray Mousse...exactly what my hair doesn't need but it's a nice sized sample, so I'll pass it along.

When you place an order with Beauty Brands, you get to pick three free samples. One of mine was Philosophy's Ultimate Miracle Worker, a multi-rejuvenating face cream with SPF 30. (Word to the wise - ALWAYS pick the Philosophy product if you have a choice!)

A lot of people complain about foil pack samples but if you can accept that they are what they are...single use packs...they are still a great way to try new products. Two of these were my second and third freebies; the Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture cream and the Hempz Volumizing Shampoo. (Why I ordered that last one I don't know; they must not have had anything else that interested me.)

The other four foil packs were advertised as part of the bag; Wella's EIMI Perfect Me Lightweight BB Lotion, Tigi Bedhead for Men Pomade, Redken Frizz Dismiss Shampoo & Conditioner and Matrix Oil Wonders Shampoo & Conditioner.  Obviously, my hair has a lot of work to do!

Are the contents worth more than $100?  Absolutely not.  But, you be the judge. Was all of that worth $10.95?  You know what I think!

Although Beauty Brands advertised this as the Holiday Haircare Bag, it is still available on their site.  I'm not sure how much longer it will be around so if you want one, grab it here. Use code EC11804 for a $5.00 discount!
