Glossybox October 2014 Review + Coupon Code for FREE Alex & Ani Bangle!

One of the very few annual boxes I subscribe to is Glossybox.  I was willing to make that commitment for three reasons:  a) they appear to be a stable company, b) they consistently send luxury brand samples and c) there are significant discounts for longer term subscriptions.

Glossybox's signature pink keepsake box is the very best and classiest packaging of all the subscription boxes in my opinion. These boxes are actually becoming a problem for me...what do you do with such beautiful boxes? There are only so many gifts you can package in them. It would be a crime to throw them away. I do use a few for specific storage solutions but the bottom line is...they are piling up around here. Seriously....what do you do with them?

October's box contained five items which unfortunately, did not photograph very well. Four of these contain enough product to last for quite a long time; one is a single use item.

Inside the lid of this Glossybox, they included a discount card worth $40 towards a Hello Fresh subscription.  I have read rave reviews about this service so the coupon may inspire me to sign up.

The fold out pink card gives a photo of each item, application tips and full size retail prices.

There is a 3.3 oz. sample of Anti-Fade Weightless Argan Oil + UV Protection spray by Progranix. This has a very light cherry blossom scent and provides a dose of shine and sun protection.

Next is a very cute little 1-1/4" square pot of a cream highlighter in the shade "Cashmere" by Kryolan, a brand I have never run across before. This particular product was made exclusively for Glossybox and has their logo crown on the lid. This is a multi-purpose highlighter that can be used on cheeks, eyes or lips. The shade is elegant, but a bit dark for me. With enough blending, I can make it work though.

The next item just scares me. It is a matte lip tar by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics in the shade "Black Dahlia".  It looks black but the card says it goes on as a dark red. Lip tars are the latest lip product; sometimes, I think they just keep re-working products into new forms to make us all buy whatever is hot. (Duh!)  As I understand it, a lip tar is a highly pigmented liquid lipstick that you apply very sparingly with the tiny lip brush that is provided.  I don't like working that hard on my lips and I especially don't like getting this same product for two months in a row.  (Glossybox included a bronze lip tar by the same company in my September box.)  Enough with the lip tars, Glossybox!

There is a Botanical Hydro Mask by Sesha Skin Therapy, another company I'm not familiar with. This is a skin-calming sheet mask which contains extracts of cucumber fruit, green tea and marigold, which has anti-inflammatory benefits. This goes on your face for 15 to 30 minutes. I like the idea but am not crazy about receiving one time use products. Aside from that, I am looking forward to trying this.

The most welcome product to me is the Amore Eau de Parfum by Vince Camuto.  I love everything about this...from the pretty pink box to the adorable little sample bottle with the silver filigree lid to the light romantic floral scent. I use scents very sparingly so this little bottle (which retails for $78 in the full size) will last me a long time.

For me, this box contained four hits and one miss (the lip tar).  I am a sucker for great packaging and the highlighter and the cologne really stand out in that respect.
