BeautyCon BFF Bethany Mota's Winter Essentials Box Review + $5 Discount Code!

I may have just found THE most girly beauty box out there.  The sequined Minnie Mouse ears were my first clue.  With its abundance of pinkishness and two word affirmations, BeautyCon BFF is clearly geared towards teens and young women. (If you need to ask what BFF stands for, this box is definitely not for you!) This quarterly subscription sends full size fashion and beauty brands, with a total retail value of at least $100.  Each box is curated by a different "beauty influencer", this time by YouTube celebrity Bethany Mota.

Payment options for BeautyCon's box are simple.  You can pay $99 upfront for the coming year or get billed $29 every three months.  There is a shipping cost for each box.  I'm not sure if this is the same for everyone but I was charged $6.99.

You rarely see two pound beauty boxes but that's about what the Winter Essentials box weighs!  The cutesy teen-oriented design was a bit off-putting but there are plenty of products inside that will appeal to all ages.

The goods were packed inside iridescent cellophane; a fun and festive touch that really makes it feel like a present!

I was surprised by how many products were packed inside.  All but one appear to be full sized.

This card pictures Bethany and her Dancing With the Stars mirror ball trophy on one side and lists all the products (no information provided) on the other side.

There's no overlooking the ears; they are the first thing anyone is going to notice! These are particularly nice; a black satin ribbon covered headband with sequin embellished ears and a polka dot red bow.  As it turns out, Minnie Mouse ears suit me quite well...and yes, I have my next Halloween costume.

From Bethany, there is a $10 gift card towards a purchase of $50 or more on Aeropostale's site, where she has a collection.  This is not a site I frequent but the prices are good and they have a lot of cute Spring and Summer styles. Would have liked it better if you didn't have to spend so much.

This is a 5 oz. spray can of Root Amp root lifting spray mousse from Garnier Fructis which is marked as having a hold level of 5 on a scale of 1 to 5.  Nice product but the last thing my hair needs so I will pass it along.

I always like getting full size nail polishes, especially from Essie.  This one is in the shade "Marshmallow"; good accent color but I really wish they'd sent almost anything else.  Oh well, it IS Essie.

This "Goal Digger" notebook is a BeautyCon exclusive (I think); it has a shiny gold cover and Bethany's signature on the front.  The pages are lined and at 7" x 5.25", it's a nice size for carrying around.

Here's a Super Shock Cheek from Colour Pop in the shade "Stole the Show" which is a light cool-toned gold with luminous flashes of pink.  (Sorry, it just didn't photograph well.)  This is a highlighter which probably works best just above the cheekbones and maybe dotted on a couple of other places.

This is Hand Food from Soap & Glory, a brand you don't see much in sub boxes.  This is very light and absorbs well.  It contains shea butter, macadamia oil and marshmallow.  The scent is their "Original Pink" fragrance; I don't know what that is but I love it!

For those who are really into Minnie Mouse, there is a package of Minnie-inspired jewelry tattoos from Tattoo Junkee.  These are cute and I'm sure any teen would enjoy them.

I was hoping there'd be a cool Nike product in this little orange box.  But it was designed just to hold a gift card.  Again, you have to spend $50 but the gift card is worth $20....so, pretty good deal!

This pump spray bottle holds Hydrating Toner by Murad. This looks like the only product in the box that is not full size; it is a luxury or travel size.

I've been wanting to try one of Revlon's Ultra HD Matte Lipcolors; lo and behold, there was one in this box!  This is a gel formula high definition lip color that goes on velvety smooth. There is no shade name on the tube but after scouting around, I believe it is the deepest shade, which is called "Addiction".

The last item in the box is this Maybelline "The Falsies Push Up Drama" mascara in a striking metallic red case.  This one is in "Blackest Black" and is supposed to give extra volume and lift.  The brush does have an interesting design that I haven't seen before so we'll see if it does the job.

Although I didn't do a cost breakdown, I thought the contents of the BeautyCon BFF box were impressive for the price.  There are a lot of drugstore brands here and I really like that we got some of their newest products.  I am probably not the intended target market for the Minnie Mouse ears or Disney tattoos, but those bits of whimsy set this box apart from other beauty boxes.  Since this is a quarterly box, there won't be the problem of being absolutely inundated with beauty products every month....something I value more and more these days!

Unfortunately, the Bethany Mota Winter Essentials box is sold out and they are not currently taking new subscriptions.  But if you sign up for their mailing list, you'll be the first to hear when they open for new subscriptions. When the time comes, use code BESTIE5 to get $5 off your subscription. BeautyCon BFF boxes arrive in March, June, September and December so now is the time to keep an eye on their site!

Thanks for reading,

Cheryl
