Subscription boxes from small business can be some of the most interesting and best curated out there so I was interested to sign up when they ran a recent Living Social deal. I was a little wary, knowing that young businesses can easily get overwhelmed, their websites can be quirky and communication can be spotty. None of those problems were an issue with Moxie Box. It did take almost a month to receive my first box but I attribute that to the fact that they were processing their first Living Social deal.
Moxie Box has four subscription options with progressive discounts for longer term subscriptions. A $2.99 shipping shipping fee applies for each box.
Month to month - $30.00
Three months - $27.00
Six months - $25.50
Twelve months - $24.00
When signing up, you fill out a questionnaire which gives them information to personalize your box. (I don't remember doing that but judging from the contents of my first box, I must have!) You will receive things like graphic tees, earrings, bracelets, wallets, scarves, etc. My first order arrived in a plain cardboard box with some green chevron patterned tape across the front.
Inside I found a scarf, a small candle and two pairs of stud earrings. So far, so good!
The card gives contact and social media information for Moxie Box on one side and a discount code for Wicks and Wax Candles. If you're interested, use code "moxiebox" for a 10% discount at their site.
This lovely infinity scarf is very lightweight but also quite full. It is a seafoam green color with a large floral pattern in shades of lavender, yellow, tan and brown. I think it will work well for indoor wear over a sweater or outside with a solid colored coat.
There are two pairs of stud earrings in the box. That's what tipped me off that I must have filled out a survey. I pretty much only wear small stud or hoop earrings....nothing wilder. Both pairs are mounted on branded Moxie Boutique cards. The first pair is small gold bows and the second pair is small sparkly black balls. Very cute and very much my style!
Candles are always welcome in subscription boxes as far as I'm concerned! This small candle in a tin comes from Wicks and Wax Candles and is in the scent "Sangria", which is described as sweet red wine blended with raspberries, grapefruit and cherries. It has a very fruity scent that I really like.
So, that's it for my first Moxie Box. For the three month $55 deal I purchased on Living Social, I think the value is quite good. But my favorite aspect of this box is the obvious care that was taken in hand picking the items. That is a huge benefit of purchasing a sub box from a small business and what can distinguish their service from the big companies. This box truly felt like a birthday present containing items chosen by a close friend.
If you would like to try Moxie Box, they have offered a special discount for my readers. When ordering, mention this blog (Lone Star Shopper) for a 10% discount. If you sign up for 3, 6 or 12 months, they will include an extra item in your box. Eventually, I think these promotions will be available on their site through the checkout process. For now, please contact Cari (the owner) directly at (302) 456-1300 or e-mail her at moxieboutiquede@yahoo.com to get these promotions when you order.
I am SO looking forward to my next birthday present...uh, I mean Moxie Box!
