Ipsy Glam Bag Subscription Review, December 2014 + Product Discount Codes!

At a measly ten bucks a month, Ipsy's Glam Bag can't be beat in the low priced beauty subscription category. Founded by 27 year old entrepreneur and YouTube sensation Michelle Phan, Ipsy consistently sends high end beauty samples and full size products and is the only beauty sub that competes head to head with BirchBox on both price and quality.  Michelle Phan is also the face for "em" cosmetics from L'Oreal.  (Interesting that I don't remember seeing an "em" product in any of the Ipsy bags to date!)

Ipsy is notable for the cosmetic bag they include with every month's shipment.  They are different every month and all feature a cute little Ipsy logo tag.  Ipsy employs a customization tool called IpsyMatch which uses the results from your upfront profile to determine what goes in your bag. They also have an IpsyPoints system where you can earn points by writing monthly products reviews. Points are then redeemed for free full size products. In addition to earning products from their site, those reviews also help them personalize the products that go in your bag.

So let's see what arrived in December's Ipsy Glam Bag.  Not too many hot pink metallic bubble mailers arrive in my mailbox so I always know when it's Ipsy time!

December's cosmetic bag is a sleek black mini duffle style with a heart-shaped pink logo tag.

Inside are three full size products and two luxury sample sizes.

Ipsy doesn't waste a minute with detailed information cards....just a simple "thank you" card.

My favorite product in this bag is the Renewing Eye Cream (Avocado & Argan) from Nourish Organic.  It looks like this exact product is not available on the Nourish Organic site right now but they have a variation coming out in January.  At .5 oz., I'm not sure if this is a full size item or not. Since an application of eye cream requires so little product, this tube will last me a long time.  If you're interested, you can use code IPSYLOVE30 to get 30% off all products on Nourish Organic's site until 12/31/14.  LOVEIPSY30 should be good for 30% off through 01/31/15.

Next is a full size tube of NYX Butter Lip Balm in the shade "Parfait".  Yes, we get too many lip glosses and balms in beauty subs but then again, they are extremely useful year-round and are consumed pretty quickly (at least mine are).  This one is a sheer wash of fuchsia with blue undertones.  Use the code NYXGLITZ to get 25% off the NYX Glam Collection at the NYX website.

There is a sample of Bumble and Bumble's Repair Blow Dry for dry or damaged hair (ME!) that you work through your hair before blow drying.  I don't remember ever receiving a B&B product before so am happy to try this elixir/serum product.  Looks like there is enough here for maybe ten applications on my short hair.

You might think this next one is a nail polish.  You'd be wrong.  Believe it or not, this is an eye shadow!  It's called Just Mineral Eye Polish from Cailyn Cosmetics.  It is a pigmented satiny powder made from 100% raw mineral powder that is said to have incredible staying power.  This one is in the shimmery "Orchid" shade.  If you're curious, use code IPSYCAILYN to get 20% off any purchase at Cailyn Cosmetics.  (expires 1/31/15)

The last product is a sample of Tarte's "Lights Camera Lashes" 4-in-1 mascara.  That means it lengthens, curls, volumizes and conditions. This is a high performance formula that has received rave reviews so I'm glad to give it a try.  Use code IPSYDEC for 20% off at Tarte's site.  Hurry, as this code expires on January 8th.

That's it for December's bag.  I'm most pleased with the Nourish Eye Cream and the Bumble & Bumble sample.  The Cailyn Eye Polish is intriguing but since I rarely use eye shadows, that will probably go in my shop.  As always, the value of the contents far exceeds the $10 paid so I'm happy!

It has just dawned on me that I've really been missing out by not participating in Ipsy's point system. It doesn't seem to be quite as good as BirchBox's, but hey...free product is free product!  I'll let you know in a couple of months if that pays off.

Thanks for reading,

Cheryl
